When Life Hits Hard

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” (2 Corinthians 4:7-9 NIV)

When life hits hard, I often tell God I’m not strong or equipped enough for the pressure of adversity. Once these moments present themselves, abruptly or gradually, I become uneasy as if I’m walking into battle without an army or weapon. After a few minutes of self-pity, I snap myself out of these anxious thoughts and remember if God is for me, who or what can be against me (Romans 8:31)? Through God’s love, we have already won every fight we encounter.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28-34 NIV)

This New Year, let’s keep our minds and hearts centered on God, even as we walk through uncertainty. If we allow God into our weakest moments, we will feel and see Him shine the brightest (Psalm 46).
