Money Over Everything?

There is a YouTuber, turned celebrity, who will do anything to keep her audience of over 4.5 million captivated, in turn making thousands if not millions of dollars. She has tried everything from leech therapy on her tongue to eating food off a toilet, all in search of riches.

As I watched in amazement at all her unconventional feats, I wondered how much further she would be willing to go. And I realized, just as she would eagerly fly across the world and risk her life for wealth and notoriety, I should be just as zealous in my quest to live out God’s will in my life.

If I would be willing to ditch my comfort if offered a sizeable salary, I should be even more willing to pick up and go at God’s command.

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” (Matthew 6:24 NIV)

Submitting to God’s will by putting Him above everything — money and personal desires included — is the key to a successful life. Following God’s all-knowing voice becomes less scary the more we develop a stronger relationship with Him. This is accomplished by putting into practice what we learn through prayer, fasting, worship, Bible reading, etc.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33 NIV)
