People are Flaky

With social media’s influence, it can be easy to put those with droves of followers on pedestals. But attempting to model our lives after influencers, will prove unfulfilling.

“…for He satisfies the thirsty

and fills the hungry with good things.” (Psalm 107:9 NIV)

We cannot turn celebrities, peers, mentors or family members into gods. People are flaky and fickle. If they haven’t already – they will let us down. Only God can fill our souls’ longing to be affirmed, loved and fulfilled. No human person can do that for us.

 “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19 NIV)

We must stop putting people on pedestals only God is glorious enough to stand on. We must stop obsessing over someone else’s success, beauty and wealth. Yes, we can glean tips from established icons, but the purpose God has for us will be unlike anyone we admire. We do an injustice to God by trying to accomplish our purpose the way we’ve already seen it done. God does not favor one of His children over the other (Acts 10:34). Just as He has an incomparable plan for our role models, He has an incomparable plan for us. So show up authentically, God’s purpose for your life depends on you just being you.

“For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.” (Psalm 139:13-14 NIV)
