The Contentment in Joy

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:11 ESV

Psalm 16:11 is one of my favorite scriptures. The joy that David speaks about here is much different than happiness, which is based on circumstances. This joy is given by God and resides in us through the Holy Spirit. Joy is sustained during the worst of days and the best of them. Having joy doesn’t mean that feelings of sadness, anguish and fear won’t ever come, but it means these feelings won’t make a home in our lives. With joy present in our spirit, contentment is possible.

Today, if you are struggling to find joy, spend some time meditating on Psalm 16:11, and asking God to show you what joy looks like in your life.
