Courage Over Comfort

Recently, I watched a Netflix talk by Brené Brown on the necessity of vulnerability. Among the many great lessons she presented to listeners, one piece of wisdom stood out among the rest. Each day she settled to choose courage over comfort, and she encouraged viewers to do the same.

“‘Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.’” (Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV)

God does not call us to be comfortable each day of our lives. If He did, we wouldn’t need verses like the one above to keep us grounded and motivated. So, in the face of fear and frustration, worry and weakness, let’s choose courage, which sets the foundation to flourish over comfort, which stunts our growth. As we continually choose courage, we will see God’s wondrous works like never before (Psalm 145).
