“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” (Psalms 119:105 NIV)

One thing about being a child of God is that we get to experience the amazing promises of God. Some of these promises include an eternity in heaven (John 3:16), peaceful sleep (Proverbs 3:24), having joy (Psalm 16:11), closeness to God (Psalms 34:18), forgiveness (Psalm 103:12), etc. As we relish his promises, we must not forget his commands.

“But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.” (Luke 6:35 NKJV)

“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.” (James 1:19‭-‬20 NIV)

“He answered, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Luke 10:27 NIV)

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:33‭-‬34 NIV)

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” (Galatians 6:9‭-‬10 NIV)

“‘Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.'” (Luke 6:37‭-‬38 NIV)

It may be easier said than done to remember and act on the commands we read. But, as we grow in our relationship with God, continuously meditate on scriptures, and consistently spend time with Him, He will give us the grace to be obedient to His word.

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” (James 1:22‭-‬25 NIV)
